Project | Large Deformation in Optical Fibers and Computation of Power loss

-MATLAB and FORTRAN code for nonlinear finite element analysis of loop of optical fiber was developed and power-loss in fiber was calculated in COMSOL. Fiber is mathematically modeled as flexible beam with various boundary conditions. This code is able to give solutions for different boundary conditions. Geometrically exact beam theory was employed to model the fiber. In all previous work elementary Euler Bernoulli beam theory is used. It is able to take care of large rotations and large deformation associated with flexible beam.
- In Autodesk Fusion 360 cad model of mandrel for experimental determination of the power loss in optical fiber was developed and it was manufactured using Lathe machine. Apart from that 3D-printing was used to manufacture mandrels with helical path engraved on it having pitch more than 14 mm.

-Roughness measurement on the groove of mandrel using 3D optical profile-meter to account for the micro bending losses.

Project | Debonding of Adhesive Fibril seen in the Scotch Tapes

-In pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes, adhesive failure is often accompanied by cavitation and fibrillation.

-In this work, we focused  specifically on fibrillation. We model the behavior using a single fibril (mono-fibril) configuration with the axisymmetric boundary conditions. Using the finite element method, we simulate the mono-fibril with varying aspect ratios using hyperelastic models such as Arruda–Boyce and Yeoh.

-First, we explain why the deformation of these fibrils is not purely uniaxial.

-We investigate fibril debonding using parameters of the Yeoh model fitted to the uniaxial rheological experimental data from two PSA tapes, referred to as PSA types 6A and 6B. Based on this analysis, we derive the power laws for debonding stretch and debonding force for both PSA types. Finally, we compare our findings with experimental data on mono-fibril debonding from the literature..

Project | Working prototype of CNC friction stir welding machine
-To understand the friction stir welding process by virtue of development of cnc friction stir Welding machine model.
-The developed prototype can be able to weld two 3 mm thick lead plates for demonstration purpose.
-3D Cad model was developed in Pro-Engineering and static analysis was done using ANSYS.
Fixture was fabricated for clamping the plates during the welding process.
